Your landscape, in good hands all season

Your LawnWise specialist uses the best method and product for each plant through the whole season. Just as important, he recognizes issues early and deals with them, so your time isn’t spent wondering whether the trees and shrubs are getting what they need.

Trees and shrubs are expensive to replace, and keeping them healthy is a lot cheaper than starting over. Around Franklin, Brentwood, Spring Hill and Nashville that usually means bagworms on the evergreens, scale on hollies and crape myrtles, and leaf spots after a wet Middle Tennessee spring.

We fertilize, and we treat for insects and disease. We don’t prune, trim or remove trees.

Planting this year?

Give young trees a mulch ring

Spread mulch as wide around the trunk as you can stand to look at, and keep it pulled back off the bark. Mulch piled against a stem holds moisture where it causes trouble later.

Fertilized trees are slow to show it, often weeks for new growth and months to take the feeding up, so don’t judge the program by the first month. Our post on common tree and shrub pests and diseases covers what to watch for, and the Lawn Care FAQ has more tree and shrub answers.

Tree and shrub questions

What is dormant oil and why is it the first round?

Horticultural or dormant oil suffocates insects and their eggs, keeps eggs from hatching and helps control the insects already on the plant. It goes on first, before spring growth, so the season starts with fewer pests on your trees and shrubs.

How many tree and shrub treatments are in a year?

Seven. Round 1 is dormant oil, round 2 a root stimulator with micronutrients, rounds 3 through 6 protect against insect and disease damage, and round 7 feeds the trees and shrubs to strengthen the roots and the look of the landscape.

What does a root stimulator do for shrubs?

A root stimulator with micronutrients, round 2 of the LawnWise program, feeds the roots as the plants wake up in spring. Stronger roots mean better growth and a better-looking landscape, and they help shrubs hold up through a Tennessee summer.

Can I add tree and shrub care to my lawn program?

Yes. Tree and shrub care is its own seven-round program, and it can run alongside a lawn program so one company looks after the whole yard. Ask for it at your free landscape evaluation, and ask about the 10% off premium packaged offers.
