College Grove lawn care for bigger lots
College Grove is the rural corner of Williamson County, out along Highway 31A, where a front yard can run an acre or more and the lawn ends at pasture, fence line or a farm pond.
A lot of lawn, mostly in full sun
Open country lots get sun all day, which suits Bermuda and zoysia, and both handle a dry Tennessee August better than fescue does. Shaded ground near the house and under the old trees is usually tall fescue. On a yard this size the split matters, because the two grasses want different things at different times of year. That holds as much for the farmhouses as for the newer homes around The Grove.
The free evaluation starts there. A specialist walks the property, notes where each grass grows and where the trouble spots are, and recommends LawnWise Basic, Plus or Premier. The core rounds are on our lawn care programs page. College Grove and our Franklin office are both in Williamson County.
Big lots also show weeds from a long way off. Pre-emergent in rounds 1 and 2 keeps crabgrass out of the open ground, and broadleaf control in later rounds stops dandelion and clover from spreading across an acre.
Ponds, creeks and mosquitoes
Farm ponds, stock tanks and the low ground along the creeks hold water most of the year out here. Mosquitoes breed in it and come up to the house when the evening cools. Our mosquito treatments go on the shrubs and shaded areas around the home where they rest during the day. Each lasts about 30 days, with visits monthly May through September. The barrier goes where people spend time, close to the house, rather than across every corner of the property.
Old shade trees around a farmhouse and the young ones planted on a new lot can both go on the seven-round tree and shrub program, which feeds the roots and protects against insects and disease. LawnWise doesn’t prune or take trees down.
Pests that come in from the fields
When the hay is cut or the weather turns cold, mice and field crickets look for a way inside, and wasps like the eaves of a porch with open country around it. PestWise covers mice, rats and dozens of other pests, treating around the outside of the house each quarter and coming back free if they return in between. Firewood stacked against the house invites termites, so keep it a few feet out. Closer to Nashville, see our page on Nolensville lawn care.

Lawn care questions in College Grove
Can LawnWise treat a lawn of an acre or more?
Yes. Big lots are part of the work in rural Williamson County, and the programs are the same on an acre as on a quarter acre: the same rounds, timed the same way. At the free evaluation a specialist sees the size, the grass types and the problem spots before recommending a program.
Does zoysia or Bermuda handle a dry summer better?
Both are drought tolerant once established, and Bermuda generally recovers faster after a drought because it spreads by runners above and below ground. Zoysia stays denser but grows and recovers more slowly. Either one may go dormant and tan in a long dry spell, then green up again once the rain returns.
How do I keep mice out of a farmhouse in College Grove?
Seal gaps around pipes, doors and the foundation, keep feed and pet food in closed containers, and clear brush and wood piles away from the walls. Mice and rats are covered in every PestWise package, along with quarterly exterior service and free service calls if they come back between visits.
Why do mosquitoes come out at dusk in the country?
Many common mosquitoes, including the kinds that can carry West Nile virus, are most active from dusk to dawn, and they spend the hot part of the day resting in shade and vegetation. Treating that resting cover around the home is how the LawnWise monthly barrier treatment reduces the evening crowd.
